I’m not really a blogger…I assume you know this based on the length of time since my last post. But I am a swimmer! And I’ve started swimming again, so I have something to blog about. SO KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED PEOPLE! Also, last weekend I did the longest race of my swimming career: 2.5 miles in Lake Tahoe. OPEN WATER! 6200 FEET OF ELEVATION!! Lots of new territory. Update coming soon.
“You really should come compete with us at Nationals this year!”
“Sam, you have such an amazing breastroke, I was watching how much power you get underwater and was trying to copy what you were doing.”
“When you swim with Sam, she causes you pain.”
“Sam, you are just so strong!”
The best part? Breaststroke is my WORST stroke! Having the comradrie and support of my teammates is really what brings me back every day. I couldn’t do this on my own.
GLAD (or the Green Lake Aqua Ducks) is the masters team that I swim with. I absoutley love it. Having a structured workout and the support of other swimmers makes me enjoy it so much more. (click the headline to be directed to my team’s website)
If you aren’t in the Greenlake or North Seattle area and are interested in joining a team, I encourage you to check out: http://www.usms.org/lmsc/ to find a team near you.
Check it out and talk with the coach because most teams have accomodations for ALL levels of swimmers.
“Can anybody find me… somebody to looooove”
Let me explain. I find it funny that i get completely random songs that get stuck in my head during swim practice. Today it was a little Queen. I actually lost count during our main set, oops!
Clearly I didn’t get around to posting a recap about my first Masters meet. Apologies to all.
The weekend was tiresome, challenging and exhilarating all at the same time. I forgot how much it hurts to really race! I swam 6 events (the most you can do) over the two days. Pushed my body farther than I have in a long time. I even beat my coach in a showdown during the 200 IM! My events and results were:
100 yard backstroke (1:05.37 - second place)
200 yard freestyle (209.90 - first place)
100 yard individual medley (107.83 - third place)
500 yard freestyle (5:39.57 - first place)
200 backstroke (2:22.01 - first place)
200 individual medley (2:23.92 - second place)
Not bad for my first few races in 5 years. I took most of the month of June off, mostly because I was lazy, and because it’s so hard to get up prior to 5am in the summer time! I am back at it for July though. I just feel so much better when I swim both physicaly and mentaly. While I am ending this post (and starting my days) very tired, I am also thankful that I have the opportunity to do what I love.
Competition went swimmingly (yes, pun intended) and I’m too exhausted and busy to post a full recap right now. Check back soon!
I’ve been sick for over a week and drug myself to the pool yesterday so I could get SOME swimming in before competition tomorrow. It actually went really well! I still feel strong and am ready to race! I will report back on Monday with results and pictures, courtsey of the talented and handsome Kyle Peterson :)
My first blog entry. Ever. I feel like it should be something phenomenal, but I’m sure it wont be. I have always wanted a blog, but never really had much to say. But now I do! I’ve decided this blog will be about my swimming career, which technically comes after my first and mostly successful swimming career. There is a lot to tell, and it will all get out eventually (maybe)
As far as my second swimming career goes, I started training with the Green Lake Aqua Ducks (yes, it is GLAD) in February and my first competition is in 10 DAYS! I am excited and nervous and slightly worried I might not make it through the whole weekend. Wish me luck!
I hope you will enjoy reading my blog as it develops, and that it might provide some insight to my non swimmer friends about why on earth I would voluntarily get up at 430 every morning :)
ps - that picture of a pool above? It’s where I’m competing next weekend!
